Consider these resolutions, including maintenance agreements, to improve your HVAC system this new year.

Maintenance agreements are one of the best ways to have a more efficient and better-performing HVAC unit. There are a variety of ways you can improve your HVAC this upcoming year.

#1: Use a Programmable Thermostat

Programmable thermostats are great for improving energy efficiency. This is because they allow you to run the heater or air conditioner only when you need to. When you're on a trip or away from your home or office for an extended period, there's no need to keep the indoor environment at a temperature no one will be around to appreciate. This is when you want your HVAC off or at least running at a lower temperature setting that uses less electricity.

#2: Regularly Change Your Air Filter

HVAC owners receive constant reminders about the importance of changing their air filters. And what commonly happens is that the reminders cause them to change the air filter, but then they forget to do it again in a few months. So one of this new year’s resolutions should be not just changing the air filter, but remembering to do so periodically.

#3: Get Regular HVAC Maintenance

HVAC systems are complex machines and to work their best, they need periodic care. Home and business owners can do this themselves, but they usually lack the skills, experience or time to do so. That's why there are maintenance agreements, which send professional technicians to make sure the system is working properly and to complete maintenance tasks, such as changing the air filter, calibrating the thermostat and lubricating any moving parts.

#4: Clean Air Vents

The air vent is where the heated or cooled air flows in or out of the ductwork. If these vents become blocked with dust or dirt, it can severely reduce the effectiveness of your system. So in the next few months, take a few minutes to clean out the dust and dirt from the air vents, and you'll notice a more comfortable interior, with cleaner indoor air, too.
