Why Does the Size of My Air Conditioner Matter?

When it comes to the size of your business’s air conditioner, bigger isn’t always better.

Commercial Air Conditioning

We often like to think bigger is better; however, when it comes to your commercial service air conditioning needs, it is important you get the right size for your building for proper climate control as well as to protect your budget. A couple of reasons it is important to have a properly sized air conditioning system include:

1. Quality Comfort

When your A/C is performing, it has two jobs to do for you. It needs to lower the air’s temperature while it also removes moisture from the air. The second job takes a little longer than the first. An air conditioner that is too big will not run for a long enough time period because the air is cooled too quickly, which means it will then shut off. The air is now cool and damp, which can lead to oversized problems—especially in the humid climate we live in. High indoor humidity levels are a problem for both health reasons and comfort, which is why it is so important to have an HVAC system that is sized right for your business.

2. Lifespan

An oversized air conditioner quickly turns into a short-cycling air conditioner from all the start ups and shut downs. Over the course of time, this leads to costly repairs and replacements—expenses no business owner wants to encounter.

Your next question will likely be: How do I know what size I need? This comes down to BTU’s and the square footage of your building.
